About the Course

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was originally developed for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) but has since been adapted for a wide range of challenges, including substance misuse, suicidal behaviour, eating disorders, and treatment-resistant depression. DBT techniques can be integrated into your therapeutic style as powerful tools for change. Even non-therapists working with clients with complex personality problems will gain practical strategies to improve engagement and outcomes.

Engaging Clients

About the Trainer

Dr Fiona Kennedy is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and an internationally respected trainer. She developed specialist UK NHS DBT services for people with BPD who self-harm, including those with co-morbid eating disorders and substance misuse, earning recognition from BUPA and the NAO. Fiona has delivered training nationally and internationally for over 15 years and has adapted DBT for use with volunteers in India supporting children from adversity.

Fiona’s research and publications focus on trauma and dissociation. She is the author of Get Your Life Back: The Most Effective Therapies for a Better You, integrating CBT, DBT, ACT, and CFT, shortlisted for the BMA Book of the Year Award. Her latest work, Integrating CBT and Third Wave Therapies, is part of Routledge’s CBT Distinctive Features Series.
